Foster

Being a foster family is a rewarding experience and it saves lives. There is limited space at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter and when the cages are full and no foster families available –tough decisions have to be made. One of the advantages of fostering is that it is not a permanent commitment. You can nurture a dog or cat in the fall and still go on that vacation in the spring.  We need Foster families to care for :

  • cats/dogs who need a place to stay when there is no more roomphoto 2
  • orphaned puppies/kittens too young for adoption
  • pregnant/nursing mothers/babies that need a peaceful home to grow
  • orphaned puppies/kittens that need round the clock care
  • shy dogs/cats that need one on one attention
  • sick/injured/senior animals that need a quiet loving home to heal or live out their last days in peace and comfort.

We are looking for caring, compassionate folks who are over 21 years old who live in Beaufort County….Want to make a HUGE difference in an animal’s life — become a Foster family. Fostering may be the perfect solution for a military family or retirees who like to travel or retirees who spend the winter in Beaufort. The Humane Association of the Lowcountry (HAL) provides all medical care through Port Royal Veterinary Hospital or through the Beaufort County Animal Shelter at no cost.  We will also provide basic needs for your foster care pet including food, bowls, crate, litter and more. However, if you want to pay for food, litter, and toys, HAL would be very appreciative.  If you think that you would like to become a HAL Foster family, please complete the Foster Application. Thank you for opening up your heart and home.
